What happens when you have purchased an RDS reservations and then six months later, you need a bigger database service? Therein lies the main issue with RDS reservations. Although often providing greater cost savings than EC2 reservations, you must ensure you are able to use an RDS RI for at least one year. As you may be aware, there isn’t a marketplace for selling RDS reservations. So, if you don’t use it, you are stuck. And in that case, you are ultimately counteracting most of the “cost savings” that you initially planned on.
On the flip side, the benefit if you have a long-term usage for an RDS reservation is the lower cost. For the greatest cost savings, I recommend Amazon Aurora or MySQL. None of us have a crystal ball, and usage time frames are hard to predict. We, at Parquantix, have a win-win scenario for you.
Today we are pleased to announce that we are expanding into RDS arbitrage. What does that mean to you?
- Maximized Profits: We will automatically purchase and monitor RDS reservations to match your activity. Along with our existing tools to arbitrage EC2 RIs, you can easily double your profits.
- Risk-Free: As with our EC2 arbitrage tools, we will cover the cost of any RDS RI that goes unused.
- No Hassle: We’ve seen that an EC2 reservation will be modified 2.1 times during its lifespan. Monitoring and constantly assessing your clients’ usage is the key to success. I recommend that you monitor clients’ usage once a week; we all know that it’s not difficult to modify a reservation, it just takes the diligence to do so. But, you’re busy. Let Parquantix do the modification work for you.
